I had the opportunity to speak to Diana Naccarato with Artful & Educational and asked her why she started profiling lifelong learners. Her response was inspirational. "I started profiling lifelong learners because I’ve been teaching Art to young adults for a few years now at the undergraduate level and my courses have a mix of art majors and non-art majors. I love working with all of my students, but I find it especially exciting to see students who are outside of the creative fields develop an interest in art. Some of my students stay in touch and share pictures of their work after they graduate, and I realized I find such joy in seeing these students continue to learn something that was so new to them, even when it’s not required of them or when they’re focused on building careers in dramatically different fields like medicine or law. Then I started teaching art privately through my small company, and many of my students are retirees developing their artistic skills later in life. They’ve had fulfilling careers in education, psychology, the military, etc, and are continuing their lifelong journey of self-improvement and learning through the arts. I find lifelong learners to be incredibly interesting people, and I am motivated by them to continue pursuing my own learning paths!"
